Honolulu Fire Department Headquarters & Museum

City & County of Honolulu Fire Department

Honolulu, Hawaii
Completed 2006

The new Honolulu Fire Department Headquarters Complex includes three major building elements:  a new headquarters building, the conversion of the historic Kaka‘ako Fire Station into a museum, and repairs and improvements to the active, on-site fire station (Engine No. 9). The architectural solution of two separate wings, with a bowed lobby element at the corner of South and Queen Streets, creates a prominent marker in the urban landscape. The design incorporates modern elements while acknowledging the traditional Hawaiian-style appearance of the historic station.
