Parker School Center for Sports, Science, and the Arts

Waimea, Hawaii

Ongoing

As part of its continuing efforts to be a place of interconnectivity in the North Hawaii community, Parker School Campus welcomes the addition of a Center for Sports, Science, and the Arts. In addition to dedicated, flexible spaces for athletics and accommodating gatherings for special events, the Center offers indoor-outdoor connected commons spaces that create new options for learning, meeting, and reflection.

The Center will house a regulation gymnasium, a Technology Center to support the school’s STEM curriculum, a Fitness Center, Dance Studio, covered outdoor recreation area, and certified commercial kitchen.

The new Center’s form is progressive while remaining sensitive to the heritage of the campus. The design of the Center balances the need to counter strong prevailing winds with the need to naturally ventilate the building and the desire to open the building to the surrounding green hills, fields, and pastures. Adapting Parker School colors and roof forms for the new building helps to connect the variety of the campus’s existing styles and color palettes.
